Pope Benedict XVI welcomed "with joy" the news of the appointment of metropolitan bishop Kirill Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia. It was written by the Holy Father to His Holiness Kirill, in a message of wish. "In prayer - write Pope Benedict XVI -, I ask the Lord that He may grant you plenty of wisdom to discern His will, persevere in lovingly serving the people entrusted to your patriarchal ministry, and support their faithfulness to the Gospel and to the great traditions of Russian Orthodoxy. May the Almighty bless your efforts, not least to maintain the communion between the Orthodox Churches and seek that fullness of communion that is the objective of cooperation and dialogue between the Catholic and the Orthodox Church". In his message, Benedict XVI ensures him of his "spiritual closeness" and "the commitment of the Catholic Church to cooperate with the Russian Orthodox Church to give an increasingly clear testimony of the truth of the Christian message and of the values that may guide today's world along the way to peace, to justice and to the loving care of the outcasts". © SIR |
