New Pro-Rector, Fr. Sunny Thomas Kokkaravalayil, SJ PDF Print E-mail

With the letter of June 8, 2009, Rev. Adolfo Nicolas, SJ, Superior General of the Society of Jesus and Vice Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Oriental Institute appointed
Fr. Sunny Thomas Kokkaravalayil, SJ, Pro-Rector ad interim of the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome.

Fr. Sunny Thomas succeeds HE Msgr. Cyril Vasil', SJ after his recent nomination as Secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches and elevation to Titular Archbishop. 

Fr. Sunny Thomas' new appointment is effective as of June 15, 2009.

May the Holy Spirit guide and accompany him in his new office.

"They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don't know where they put him". Mary Magdalene has lost track of Her Lord and is panicked; she and many others as well. How very many people are seeking the Lord and yet not finding Him in politics, economics, international justice, and constitutions of so-called modern Christian countries. The Pontifical Oriental Institute (POI - or PIO in Italian version - Pontificio Istituto Oientale) is an educational facility under the jurisdiction of the Holy See dedicated to advanced studies on Eastern Christianity. This Pontifical Institute of  the Oriental Church has  a special Catholic mission. Its Catholic mission aims at diffusing knowledge and appreciation for the religious and cultural traditions of the Eastern Christian churches. Its Eastern orientation is recognized by the two faculties of specialization offered: the Faculty of Eastern Church Studies and the Faculty of Eastern Canon Law. The Oriental Institute is also dedicated to the progression in ecumenical dialogue between the churches and holds a student body composed from among all creeds.
